Lara Stone is a mere 25 years old and yet her career in the fashion industry already spans a decade. Her trademark gap between her two front teeth have earned her the nickname of “The gap-toothed beauty”, and her size 6 frame has the likes of Bruce Webber calling her “big bad and beautiful”.
Her list of accolades seem never ending. She was listed as one of the ten new models to watch by Vogue magazine, featured in an Elle article “Supermodel Generation”, on a W cover that declared her “The most wanted face of the moment” and Vogue Paris not only put her on the cover of its February 09 issue, but also gave her center stage as sole model in the entire magazine that month.
However, most interesting to me are the whispers that her size (American 6) is what will be the start of a model size revolution. In an industry where size 0 and 2 is the norm, Lara Stone has been quoted as saying some days she feels fat.
Having walked the runways of Mui Mui, Stella McCartney, Jean Paul Gaultier, Dolce & Gabbana, Marc Jacobs and Chanel to name a few it seems that curvy girls are beginning to make their way back on the international runways - could this actually be the return of the fuller figure in fashion?
