If Chewbacca-chic isn’t the look your aiming for, here are five tips to show you how you can keep heat styling and coloring your hair this summer without sacrificing your healthy locks:
- Trim the ends of your hair every six weeks. This tip can cause panic for those of you with long hair, but I can assure you, finding a hairdresser you can trust to take off the ends more frequently will result in thicker, shinier, healthier hair.
- Over shampooing strips your hair of its oil that naturally keeps the hair moisturized. If you are guilty of washing your hair every day, try washing it every other day. If your hair looks really awful on day two, pull your hair into a ponytail or (like me) if your hair is too short for a ponytail, wear a hat. If skipping a wash isn’t an option, try a dry shampoo. Klorane, Oscar Blandi and Batiste are all great.
- Put the moisture back in. Store shelves are brimming with products containing Argan Oil (also known as Moroccan oil); this wonder ingredient helps strengthen hair, moisturizes and has a natural sunscreen to protect hair color from fading in the sun. Adding a few drops of Argan oil to wet hair makes it instantly more manageable without making it feel greasy. If you don’t want to add another product to your routine, switch to a shampoo and conditioner containing Argan oil. I love Nick Chavez Thirst Quencher Shampoo and conditioner with Argan oil.
- Eating right for healthy hair may seem like an old wives tale, but eating a diet rich in Vitamin A, Vitamin B, Folic Acid and Vitamin C is known to support healthy keratin and prevent hair loss and thinning.
