Sun, Sand & Sea – and your own hair catastrophe!
Ahhhh the long awaited summer vacation is just around the corner. Nothing like two weeks of sun, sand and relaxation to make you feel human again! Unfortunately your hair pays the highest price for this yearly indulgence. Even the most pampered locks can look like straw and feel like cardboard when you get home, not to mention the havoc that’s played out on your hair color.
Here are my top 4 tips to keep your locks shiny and luscious this summer:
1. Weekly Therapy Sessions - Give your hair a weekly intensive conditioning treatment for a few weeks prior to your trip – this can be done at home. After shampooing your hair massage an intensive conditioner from mid lengths to the ends and wrap your hair up in a towel – leave it like this for as long as you can – the longer the better.
2. Wear a hat - The wider the brim the better. For maximum protection apply a conditioner to your hair, scrunch it up into a bun and tuck it into your hat – this will work as an intensive treatment on the beach – no need for expensive trips to the salon when you get home!
3. Hair needs sunscreen too! - try Kiehls Leave in hair conditioner with sunscreen $29.50 or Phytoplage Sun Protection Oil $19.50. Make sure to apply sunscreen on your hair as often as you do your body
4. The Sea is not your friend - Avoid salt water and chlorinated water during prime sun hours – this lethal combination spells double trouble for your hair.
Ladies, please note that there is no miracle product or treatment on the market that will compensate for the wrong diet. Hair (like skin) needs a healthy balanced diet to thrive.
Because beauty starts from the inside:
Hair friends:
Live yoghurt, fresh vegetables, salads, fruit, whole grains, almonds, oily fish, figs, dates cold pressed oils (olive, safflower and sesame) and of course plenty of water.
Hair foes:
Processed foods, hydrogenated & saturated fats, caffeine, chocolate and sugar.
